Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, along with partner agencies, is due to host the second Breakwater event at Tenby Harbour on May 11.

Breakwater is a multi-agency event designed to show young people how to enjoy the greatest asset available to them, the sea. Year 7 pupils from Greenhill School will take part in workshops at Tenby Harbour to learn about the dangers associated with swimming in the sea and the hazards of jumping from height into the water.

This initiative is the result of collaboration between agencies who work in the harbour area and have experience of what can go wrong when individuals get into difficulty in and around the Harbour. The event will focus on reducing inappropriate and careless actions, such as jumping from the busy harbour, and the implications of such behaviour to harbour users and residents. The influence of peer pressure will also be discussed as pupils will be shown how to avoid getting pressured into dangerous situations, in and around the sea.

Breakwater is led by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service and supported by the RNLI, Dyfed-Powys Police, Pembrokeshire Youth Service, Tenby Sailing Club, Tenby Harbourmaster and representatives of the Tenby Boatmen.
