The sun was not the only factor brightening up Tenby last Friday, as the town played host to the annual Wales in Bloom awards.

All winners from the event's 2009 competition were invited to the prestigious awards ceremony held at the De Valence Pavilion, where they were presented with certificates and slate trophies.

Tenby Town Council and Pembrokeshire County Council hosted the awards, with Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who is also chairman of the Tenby in Bloom committee, and Clr. Mrs. Anne Hughes, chairman of the county council, both on hand to present the winners - who had come from as far as Anglesey and Usk - with their honours.

"1996 was the last time that Tenby hosted the awards and it's a great pleasure to return here. We'd like to thank the town's Mayor, Tenby Town Council and Pembrokeshire County Council for their hospitality and enthusiasm in hosting this event," said Wales in Bloom chairman, John Woods, while secretary, Donna Roberts, thanked the event's officers and committee for their hard work during the year, as well as all those who had competed.

Tenby, itself, once again enjoyed success in the competition by winning the title of best 'small country town' for the 25th time, while Malcolm Brace was on hand to receive the Giltar Hotel's award for coming second in the 'hotels, guest houses, public houses and restaurants frontage' section.
