An idea touted around the table of Tenby Council to entertain the introduction of a ‘Big Wheel’ attraction at the seaside town has been dropped.
In correspondence that came before town councillors recently, Mr Henry Studt, of Studts’ Events, explained that they had recently installed a ‘Big Wheel’ on Mumbles Pier and were now suggesting the introduction of something similar in Tenby, which he believed would further enhance the seaside town’s profile as a ‘must-see’ visitor destination.
Initially, councillors welcomed a meeting to discuss the idea, with Cllr Colonel James Phillips telling his colleagues that this was an ‘exciting idea’ - although admitting it would have a ‘significant impact’.
However, the suggestion was met with somewhat much of a backlash on social media by locals and visitors alike.
At the most recent meeting of the Town Council, members were informed that the Clerk had arranged a meeting with Mr Studt for clarity over the ‘Observation Wheel’ proposals, but were told that this meeting had now been cancelled.
Mr Studt had since asked for another meeting, but Cllr Laurence Blackhall suggested that the Town Council thank him for his interest, but explain that councillors did not think that it was an ‘appropriate development’ for Tenby.
