Clynderwen couple, Dill and Mostyn Davies, are the winners of the Idris Davies Memorial Award for 2015, announced at the Pembrokeshire County Show.
Mostyn and Dill Davies have a long history of helping young people in rural Pembrokeshire through their long association with the Young Farmers Club movement at a local, county and national level.
In 1971, Mostyn became YFC county chairman and went on to become the county president from 1997 to 1999. Mostyn has always been an avid supporter of the movement, always on hand to set up for events and most notably taking on the role of chief rally steward - a post he held for 25 years until he retired in 2012.
Behind the scenes, Mostyn’s presence always made members feel at ease and ensured that events ran with ease.
The new millennium saw Dill, his wife, take on the role of county organiser, a role she made her own during her 12 years at the rein. Always on hand to help, advise and support members, Dill followed the members around the county in various competitions, as well as ensuring that each member had the best opportunities.
Her decision to retire was greeted with sadness from members, leaders and supporters in Pembrokeshire YFC and members went on to elect Dill as vice-president and in November 2014 she followed in Mostyn’s footsteps taking on the role of county president.
In the application for the Idris Davies Award, Alun Griffiths, Pembrokeshire YFC county chairman, wrote: “They are true ambassadors of rural life and have strived to ensure that young people in rural Pembrokeshire are given the best opportunity.”
