Tenby Museum and Art Gallery has always been proud of its permanent collection of paintings by Augustus and Gwen John, as well as works by E. J. Head, Eric Bradforth, David Jones, John Piper and many other renowned artists who have worked in the area.
Now these works can be seen in a new light as a modern ceiling and state of the art lighting have been installed in the Wilfred Harrison Gallery as part of the recent refurbishment of the museum. These refurbishments have greatly improved the art display while preserving these valued paintings and drawings.
Advantage should be taken to visit the museum and galleries during the quieter winter months, particularly as the museum is offering half price admission while the work is being completed.
The archaeology gallery, maritime section, Wilfred Harrison Gallery and New Art Gallery are now open, together with the café and renewed gift shop, although work continues on the upper galleries.
The New Art Gallery re-opens next week with its first show of 2011, which will be a retrospective of work by well-known local artist and long-term museum volunteer, Doug Perry.
Entitled In Retrospect, the sales exhibition will be officially opened by Lynne Crompton of Oriel Queen's Hall Gallery on Friday, February 11, and will run from Monday, February 14, until Friday, March 11.
