Andy had been walking all round the UK visiting all the Salvation Army Centres and on Saturday, September 28, he arrived in Tenby.
He was met by Major Martyn Clements and other members of Tenby Salvation Army at the bottom of Lady Park, warm handshakes and words of encouragement were exchanged, then with the Salvation Army flag and the Welsh flag we walked with Andy through Tenby to the Salvation Army hall.
During the walk, Andy, in top hat and tails, was smiling and greeting people all the way and when we stopped for photos near the North Beach, he spoke to some people explaining what he was doing.
On arrival at the Salvation Army hall, he was met with a rapturous applause and cheers as his arrival was announced on loud speaker for everyone inside and outside to hear and some people who had seen him walking through town came in to see what was happening.
Once inside, Andy was keen to mingle and meet and talk with as many people as possible and he did so, and it was evident that this pleased everyone.
Andy was also greeted by the Mayor of Tenby who was also waiting for him at the Salvation Army hall.
Andy then gave a talk. He told us that he was walking over 7,000 miles to raise money for the work that the Salvation Army do for the homeless and the victims of human trafficking.
He told us that the Salvation Army has a government contract for their work with the victims of human trafficking and that when these victims are rescued; they are handed over to the Salvation Army.
He also told us about some of his adventures whilst walking, for example, on his way to Tenby he met a gentleman who used to be homeless and he told Andy about how the Salvation Army had helped him. Andy went on to tell us about how, in a special way, this gentleman gave him a donation for what he was doing.
Andy also sang for us, 'You'll Never Walk Alone', and he explained to us why even though he has mostly been on his own when walking, he was not alone, because he had God and everyone who is supporting him. After Andy had his time for food and rest with us, he then went on his way continuing to reach his target of miles for that day.
We were privileged to have Andy come and worship with us on the Sunday morning, too, and he sang with Tenby Salvation Army songsters and gave a talk again.
Reference was made to Andy being inspired to do this walk for this cause, pointing out that he had a dream and a goal and he went for it.
Then we, too, were encouraged to have a dream and a goal and to go for it. It was a very inspiring weekend here at Tenby Salvation Army.
