The Blue Flag status at Amroth, access to the beach near New Inn and broadband status is of concern to members of the community council.

Blue Flag

A test on the water at Amroth Beach, following heavy rainfall on July 9, proved to be a substantial failure.

The chairman had spoken with the Environment Agency and a bad weather waiver had been applied for. Officials were unable to say if the pollution was animal or human. However, a detailed study was due to take place which would hopefully identify the cause.

A councillor reported that on the day of the failure, there was double the amount of water coming down from Colby Lodge, from 32 cms to 64 cms.

The chairman stated that Environment Agency officers visited Ludchurch Bridge also on July 9 to test the run-off caused by heavy rain.

The source of the run-off was identified and the polluter had agreed to prevent this. This had since been done.

The agency would be monitoring this specific area very carefully in future.

County Councillor's report

Junction at Morgan's Way: Pembrokeshire County Council had provided different options which might be available to tackle the problem. The National Trust would be happy to relinquish a little of the hedgerow to improve visibility, providing this was not costly.

Clr. Brinsden reported that it had been proposed that the land at the back of new Parish Hall be used for new housing.

Clr. Brinsden had written to the county council stating that the community council believed strongly that the land should be used for additional car parking. PCC were re-visiting this issue.

A councillor from the area said that the piece of land was already being used for additional car parking by residents as the space was badly needed.

Work on the groynes and sea defences at Amroth: This was to be started September/October and should be completed within this financial year.

Slipway to

beach by New Inn

A councillor said that she had been approached by numerous people saying that there needed to be a slipway onto the beach at the New Inn site, as it was extremely difficult for the elderly, disabled or pram-pushers to get onto the beach at this point.

The New Inn area of beach was widely used in the summer and it had been requested that rubber matting be supplied, like that at Newgale. This would be less costly and just as practical.

A letter was sent to National Park, but it would seem unlikely that they could do this.

It was suggested that council contact PCC, as a new access route which was considered as a tourist benefit was the responsibility of the county council. A letter was to be sent to pursue this.

Broadband

Anyone in the Amroth community area who is not able to receive broadband should register in writing to Nerys Evans AM, 52 Lammas Street Carmarthen, SA31 3AL, and state why they want broadband, i.e. personal use, studying, business etc. Hard evidence is required in order to make a sound case to BT and WAG for the area to be chosen for improvements.
