Long-running concerns over ‘inconsiderate’ driving along a narrow rural road continue to be highlighted to Pembrokeshire Council
Back during the busy summer, requests were made by residents of Clayford Road, Kilgetty that a 20mph limit be considered for the route, as it had “become a short cut” to avoid the slower speed restrictions along Pentlepoir.
Reporting to East Williamston Community Council this month, county councillor for the ward, Cllr Jacob Williams referred to correspondence he had received raising concerns over the poor standard of driving of some traffic on Clayford Road, including its use by unsuitably large vehicles, exacerbated since the Pentlepoir main road had been downgraded to 20mph.
Whilst it was very difficult to see what could be done about it, since the road was a highway without any restrictions, it was suggested that there may be scope to improve the signage at each end, which warns that it is unsuitable for long vehicles.
One measure some residents would like to see, for Clayford Road to be made access-only, was unable to be considered as it would not conform to highway standards and, with police making representations that they would object to such a proposal on the basis that it would not be ‘policeable’.
