The RNLI's Sea Safety roadshow is once again visiting Lydstep Haven tomorrow (Saturday).

A source of sea safety advice that has become popular with local boaters, with two advisers offering help and information in all areas of boat safety, particularly:

Lifejacket check - if your lifejacket is to be relied upon, it needs regular maintenance and checks, both monthly and annually. You can bring your lifejackets along to the Roadshow for the RNLI's advisers to show you what to look for and how to maintain your lifejacket in full working order. It's well worth coming along - at every such 'lifejacket clinic' jackets are found with faults that would prevent them from working properly, yet are often easily corrected.

Calling for help from sea - having a proper means of calling for help from sea, and not relying on a mobile phone, is essential for anyone who goes afloat whether a few yards offshore in a kayak or a dinghy or out at sea in an ocean going cruiser.

This is an area of sea safety where technolgy is always advancing and at the Roadshow you can see some examples of the latest VHF radios, personal locator beacons, EPIRBs, compact distress flares etc and quiz the advisers on their use and on which equipment would be most appropriate for your own type of vessel.

Safety advice on board your own boat - the RNLI also offers a free and confidential visit to your boat to offer advice on all safety equipment, from the anchor to MOB recovery.

The advice on what to carry is tailored to your type of boat and the use you put it to, and takes the form of an informal chat (it's definitely not an inspection!), and all local boaters who have made use of this service have commented on how worthwhile it has been.

A visit for your boat can be booked at the roadshow, or alternatively can be requested by e-mailing Tenby Lifeboat Station at [email protected]">[email protected], or calling Tenby's Sea Safety adviser on 07770 996574.

The roadshow will be located on the beach front at Lydstep Haven from 10 am - 4 pm and all local boaters are welcome - the entrance to the resort is clearly visible on the seaward side of the A4139 Tenby to Manorbier Road, just east of Lydstep Village.
