The exhibition Alan Salisbury: A Retrospective will be officially opened at Tenby Museum and art Gallery by Professor Tony Curtis on Friday.

The exhibition celebrates five decades of active involvement with the Visual Arts. Alan enrolled on a Foundation Course at Manchester School of Art in 1965 before going on to study at Liverpool School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. A career in teaching followed at Glamorgan College of Education, which later became the University of Glamorgan.

Alan says: “This exhibition includes work completed over five decades so it is inevitable that my ideas have changed considerably over this period of time. It is interesting looking back to see how much the early painting in particular, was influenced by the cultural milieu of the time. As you practice, you gain experience and become knowledgeable and of course biographical events inform and shape the work undertaken. Although the conceptual underpinning of some of the themes in this exhibition are sometimes radically different, there are nevertheless I think lots of constant factors evident - not least that I have always been a painter and by and large a representational painter.”

This touring exhibition runs until Saturday, November 5. There is also the opportunity to Meet The Artist and discuss his work at the museum on Tuesday, September 27, at 2 pm.
