Shoppers in Dimond Street, Pembroke Dock, can hardly fail to miss an eye-catching array of plastic kit models in the Crystal shop window, displayed by the Penfro Model Club.

The club has linked up with Crystal, which sells a wide range of Airfix kits, to put on the display during January. The models cover a wide range of interests among club members, from model soldiers and cars to a submarine and a spacecraft.

Two Sunderland flying boats feature prominently, which is very appropriate as many members of the Penfro Club are volunteers for the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, which runs the Heritage Centre in the Dockyard Chapel.

One of the Sunderlands depicts T9044, the aircraft which sank off the town in 1940 and which has played a major part in the heritage story told at the Dockyard Chapel. Many parts of T9044 are in view at the chapel, alongside the story of the aircraft and the men who flew it, and models made by Penfro members.

Peter Mitchell, of the Penfro Model Club, said: "We are most grateful to Crystal for allowing us to put on the display and to promote both our club and our community's history. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Dockyard Chapel Heritage Centre and new members are always welcome."
