NARBERTH Otters have been crowned Admiral National Championship West champions following their convincing 61-7 final day win against Maesteg Quins.

The match was over as a contest at half time when they were 40 points clear.

That gave Liam Gadd the opportunity to give the whole squad some minutes but they still managed to outscore the visitors by five tries to one.

Geraint Llewellyn broke the deadlock after good work by the pack which was followed by two quick tries in succession by Hedd Nicholas.

Full back Ashley Sutton crossed the whitewash for the bonus point try and there was still time for the Narberth supporters to enjoy a second try by Llewellyn and a third by Nicholas.

Amongst Gadd’s changes was loyal club servant Ianto Griffiths who has decided to retire.

He made an instant impact as he converted a try by centre Ilan Phillips and then sped through for his own try which he also converted.

Outplayed on the day, the Quins did manage to get on the scoreboard when replacement winger Jack Riggs’ try was converted by Owen Howe.

But the Otters had the final say when they rounded off a wonderful season when flanker Josh Hamer scored under the posts and Griffiths added the simple extras to cap a long and outstanding career.

Brecon, Llangenench, Bonymaen and Newcastle Emlyn have also been promoted.
