No, you haven’t read the title wrong - and with the sun finally making a welcome appearance this week - a trip to the seaside may not be the obvious choice for an autumn day trip or weekend break - but from November, the charm of Wales’ coastline continues to attract beach lovers and adventure seekers, as Tenby’s Castle Beach, Pendine Sands and Freshwater East emerge as Wales’ warmest beaches.

It’s worth noting that the mercury doesn’t dip as low as you might think at many Welsh beaches in the autumn months.

Wales boasts breathtaking beaches with golden sands and clear blue waters set in dramatic, rugged coastlines. They attract visitors throughout the year, whatever the weather.

New research on behalf of Transport for Wales shows the statistically “warmest” Welsh beaches as we head into the colder months.

These temperatures are ideal for brisk walks or leisurely strolls along the seafront or headland. If you’re travelling with children, there’s no reason not to bring along a bucket and spade (along with some light coats) and make a day of it.

According to the study Wales’ warmest beaches in November feature Tenby’s Castle Beach; Freshwater East; and Pendine Sands - all with an average maximum temperature of 11.85°C.

Pendine Sands stretches an impressive seven miles. It’s a paradise for walkers and history enthusiasts. Did you know that in the early 1900s, these very shores were used as a race track where world land speed records have been broken? Today, it’s ideal for long walks and relaxing days out. Nature lovers can head west towards Gilman Point and explore the thriving rock pools, teeming with marine life.

Tenby Castle Beach is another must-visit destination, especially for those who appreciate pristine beaches. It’s been awarded the coveted Blue Flag for its cleanliness and water quality – perfect for a cool autumn dip perhaps? Nearby, the town of Tenby is filled with charming shops and relaxing cafes, ideal for warming up after your beach exploits.

Explore Freshwater East this autumn, known for its wide, sloping beach and natural sand dunes. It’s the perfect location for a soothing beach getaway, filled with pretty coastal walks with cosy pubs nearby.
