A local Food Bank has given a heartfelt thanks to Tenby AFC after being allowed to use a pitch-side premises for the facility.

The Food Bank in memory of James Criddle who spent considerable time offering support to vulnerable people, was set up in Kilgetty by his family last month, after launching ‘The James Criddle Foundation’ - a charitable organisation in his name.

However, at short notice the Food Bank has had to vacate its initial base at the premises located to the rear of Kilgetty Community Centre on Carmarthen Road, over the festive period.

In the meantime, over the winter months, the Food Bank has now relocated to Clickett Lane in Tenby, alongside the home of Tenby football club.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Gareth Noot, Dean Hurlow, Joe Craig and everyone else from Tenby AFC for kindly allowing us to use their premises to continue our Food Bank!” said Rachael Thomas, James’ mother.

“We are beyond grateful for all your support so we can continue helping our communities.”

James of Saundersfoot, who had been living Bali for the past couple of years, sadly passed away in July of last year, after suffering a brain injury through an accident on his bike.

Facing unbearable pain, the family decided to set up the Foundation in his name, stating that James would like nothing more than to think he was helping families through these testing times.

The Food Bank has a referral system from CAB, the Job Centre, local GPs and housing association.

Those in genuine need can request food parcels on three occasions, but on the fourth occasion a referral will be required. Everything is discreet and confidential. Deliveries are made daily to local people.

The Foundation has donations of non perishable foods, toiletries, toys, clothing, homeware and so much more.

“We opened the Food Bank to help local families, and it has been a resounding success since it started,” continued Rachael.

“We are helping many many families through these desperate times, with many people relying on it while they wait for their payday.

“Since opening the Food Bank we have 19 clients who are delivered to on a regular basis, with already more phone calls from people asking what the qualification is, but if you have a genuine need, then there is no reason to go hungry.

“With interest rates and fuel costs going up again this month, people will be relying on us to put food on the table,” she added.

At the new location at the Clicketts (SA70 8DU), the Food Bank will be open on a Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm.

However, if people want to make an appointment they can call 07354 218 154 between 9 am to 6 pm each day.

James’ father Paul Criddle (pictured above), mans the phone and will help and guide you in any way he can.
